After a recent interview clip featuring Kangana Ranaut surfaced online, Twitter is abuzz with discussions surrounding the actor and Subhash Chandra Bose. A few years back, Kangana sparked controversy by stating that India truly attained independence in 2014 when the Bharatiya Janata Party came into power. Now, her latest statement has once again garnered attention.
Attending a Times Now event on March 27, shortly after announcing her candidacy as an MP with the BJP from Mandi, Kangana’s remarks in the interview have gone viral on Twitter and Instagram. In the clip, she asserts that Subhash Chandra Bose, not Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, was India’s first Prime Minister.
Following the social media uproar, Kangana shared an article snippet on her Instagram Stories, highlighting Bose’s declaration as the Prime Minister of Azad Hind in 1943. Accompanying it was her comment, ‘Some general knowledge for beginners’.

“First, let me clarify this today. When we gained independence, where was Subhash Chandra Bose, the first Prime Minister of India? When the host pointed out that Bose was not India’s Prime Minister”, Kangana proposed a theory.
“He wasn’t, but why? Where did he disappear to? How was he made to disappear?” She mentioned that Subhash Chandra Bose fought against Japan and Germany for India’s independence but was not permitted to return to India.
Reactions to the Kangana’s Comment
Subhash Chandra Bose passed away on August 18, 1945, while India attained independence on August 15, 1947, with Jawaharlal Nehru assuming office as the first Prime Minister of India.
Kangana’s remarks have sparked criticism online. A tweet sarcastically stated, “According to Kangana Ranaut: – India gained independence in 2014 – Netaji Bose was the first PM of independent India. – Sardar Patel wasn’t made PM because he didn’t know English. For more such jokes over the next 5 years, voters in Mandi should vote for Kangana.” Another individual humorously commented, “I strongly oppose Kangana Ranaut’s claim that Subhash Chandra Bose was the first Prime Minister of India. We all know that the first PM of India was Shri Narendra Modi Ji after India gained independence in 2014.”
Concerns were also raised about Kangana’s potential role as the Education Minister, with one person remarking, “I fear that if Kangana were to become the Education Minister, she might want to rewrite history by claiming that Subhash Chandra Bose was the first prime minister of independent India.”
